A free CamScanner alternative with no ads or watermark

OpenDocScan is a free, open source CamScanner alternative: a document scanner that runs in the browser on your phone or laptop and turns a photo of a page into a straightened, searchable PDF. Unlike CamScanner, a scanner app whose free version shows ads and adds a watermark until you upgrade, it has no paid tier, no ads and no watermark, and the pages are never uploaded.

Free, no sign-up. Facts about CamScanner checked on 21 October 2026.

What this CamScanner alternative does not do

Try this CamScanner alternative

Open the scanner, photograph the first page, add the rest, and save one PDF. The scan to PDF guide walks through it step by step, and scanning multiple pages into one PDF covers longer documents. OpenDocScan is not affiliated with CamScanner or INTSIG. Questions: hello@opendocscan.com.

Questions

Is there a free CamScanner alternative without ads or a watermark?
OpenDocScan is free with no paid tier, no ads and no watermark. It scans a page in your browser and writes a straightened, searchable, multi-page PDF, with no page limit and no account.
Does this CamScanner alternative upload my documents?
No. Every step runs in the browser tab on your device, and finished documents are stored in that browser. After the app has loaded, scanning and exporting make no network requests.
Is there an OpenDocScan app for iPhone or Android?
Not yet; both are in progress. This CamScanner alternative works in the browser on your phone today, and you can add it to your home screen.
Can it read text in languages other than English?
Not yet. Text recognition reads English for now. Pages in other scripts are still scanned and exported, but without a searchable layer.
